Metallurgy

The steel industry requires hydrochloric acid for continuous and bath pickling of hot rolled steel sheeting. Pickling removes oxides present on the metal surface, so its purpose is to clean the steel prior to further surface treatments.

Following documents contain information about the use of Solvay's chlorinated inorganic products ( chlorine, hydrochloric acid, sodium hypochlorite ) in the metallurgy industry.

Please consult our chemical portal site to check if other products are also involved in this industry.

List of applications

Metal pickling Hydrochloric acid is used in the preparation of metallic surfaces before superficial treatment like painting, enameling or galvanization.
Mining Hydrochloric acid is required in a wide range of processes in the mining industry.
