High purity magnesium is produced nowadays using hydrochloric acid in an electrolytic process with sea water.
Hydrochloric acid is also used to isolate valuable metallic elements by means of a leaching process.
The obtained elements are radium, tantalum, manganese, tungsten, etc.
HCl is used in the wet digestion of phosphate rock for the industrial production of phosphoric acid. Digestion is usually carried out with sulphuric acid, but hydrochloric acid can also be used to obtain the so called wet phosphoric acid, sold as a mineral fertilizer after concentration and purification.
